The Mercury News recently shared an exciting update with the announcement of Needle to the Groove’s expansion to a second location. As local vinyl enthusiasts probably are aware, Needle to the Groove is one of the area’s few independent record stores.
Thanks in part to the recent resurgence in the popularity of vinyl LPs, Needle to the Groove has become a go-to destination for music lovers in downtown San Jose. Throughout the past 4 years, the shop has seen incredible success, despite its somewhat-cramped size. The new location, however, should provide a more comfortable shopping environment, with 2,000 square feet of space. Better yet, loyal shoppers won’t have to worry about traveling too far out of their way to visit the new location, opening at 424 E. Santa Clara St, only a few doors down from the original store.
Perhaps even more exciting is the news that Needle to the Groove will also be launching its own record label, Needle to the Groove Entertainment, which will provide a platform for local artists. Currently, those artists include Bollywood-inspired blues musician Aki Kumar, DJ Platurn, and R&B artist B. Lewis, who recently released a 7-inch vinyl entitled, “Strange Things.”
David Ma, who currently works with the record label, described the new venture, saying, “It is eclectic by design, meaning we focus on all genres as well as local and national/ international artists… We find the artists, in some cases help develop them, and push out songs we think fit the aesthetic we like.”
We’re looking forward to hearing more updates about what’s to come from the San Jose company!
